American Pie 2 by Christopher Blackman

Name me a pleasure
and I will say to you:
I have had it
and it has failed me.
Critics quarrel
the exact apex
before the decline,
but I choose to think
it’s the release
of American Pie 2
in August, 2001–
one perfect,
weightless moment
on the rollercoaster.
The boys were back,
and why wouldn’t they be?
When something feels that good,
of course you’d want
to do it again. So you do
and it feels so good.
It feels almost as good
as the last time.
