My Liberal Arts Major Era by Micki Topham

I don’t mean to brag—
last night when I thwomped
onto my jiggling waterbed,
into a border collie staring contest,
I said aloud to no one in particular:

I live in such whimsy!

Where gunshot noises become fireworks,
where broken hearts
are repaired with Mod Podge
until they become
papier-mâché art
pumping life into my body,

Micki Topham is a spoken-word poet and activist.
